Theoretical Orientation to Performance Excellence (TOPE)

Theoretically-grounded practices provide the benefits to display a structured approach in delivering competent services to athletes and programs when supporting their quest of greatness and performance excellence (Aoyagi et al., 2017). Having a TOPE is what makes the difference between providing a coaching service with useful thought limited in time coping tools vs. working on a therapeutic plan that allows for emotional, cognitive and behavioral long lasting changes. A TOPE provides a caring framework and an ethical and safe environment for both practitioner and patient, fostering the therapeutic alliance and revealing the ontological reasons in the pursuit of performance excellence.

My TOPE is defined as from ALL IN to IN WHOLE. Indeed, I connect with each patient through a creative experimenter mindset and a holistic focus, looking for meaningful questions to be developed together rather than being a provider of isolated answers. Being active, curious, having a growth, abundance and positive mindset mixed with critical thinking are my ways to support every patient in the process of creating adaptive habits. Capitalizing on the clients’ strengths rather than pathologizing them while being an advocate of multiculturalism and sociocultural matters, is my preferred way for reaching and validating the client’s identity, what I define as the major starting point for the therapeutic work. This Integrated Approach insists on connecting various psychological theories and evidences to combine them in a holistic therapeutic philosophy; it goes beyond a technical eclecticism.

If I tend to say that “motivation is a discipline” and that a structure is needed to achieve greatness, I know that it can not be achieved without unconditional positive regard from both consultant and client towards itself : this is where the dialogue starts between the ALL IN  to the IN WHOLE .

Swiss Army Knife Concept

A Mental Skills training plan benefits athletes, coaches and organizations by providing all the necessary tools for achieving mental excellence

.

The practicality of that toolbox resides in its correlated set of skills and adaptive geometry allowing performers, staff and programs to have a unique and personalized usage when needed and in the most efficient way.

Just like a Swiss Army Knife always at hand, it contains all the critical components needed for a successful preparation and execution of the Mental Game.
